The article presents the discussion on discipline of sociology having a long international tradition of both theoretical and empirical research. Topics include concept of ethnicity gaining in importance since the 1980s returning to a certain extent from the American debate; and immigrants and minorities perceiving as belonging to other ethnicities or ethnic groups gaining more attention in Western Europe.
