Sites of national interest (Sin) are highly contaminated industrial areas that the Italian State has decided to reclaim in order to eliminate environmental and health damage (Law 426 of 1998). In the first decades of the 21st century, industrialists, environmentalist movements, trade unions, Parliament with enquiry commissions, and the Istituto Superiore per la Sanità with epidemiological investigations, intervened on the reclamation of Sin. The article highlights the gap between the objectives of the reclamation policy and the real goals achieved, reconstructing the national debate and focusing on the Priolo Sin. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
