This is a study of the correspondence of the deputy from Saint-Domingue in National Convention, then in the Council of Five Hundred during the period of the Directory. Elected in 1793, Boisson arrived in Paris in June 1794. From his correspondence, essentially composed of letters he received in addition to a few documents dealing with his daily life in Paris, it is possible to establish a network this deputy had on two levels. The first level is that of relations between Boisson in the milieu of free men of color of the Cap. His ascension was accomplished by a military career, then by a marriage. But the decisive moment is that of the shift in power in the Cap in 1793, in which the revolution of color swept away white colonial power. The second level is that of Paris : in Paris, Boisson developed a mediation between the representation of Saint-Domingue and the milieu of his social origins. From this emerged an influential group entirely distinct from that of the governor Toussaint-Louverture. At the beginning of the Consulat, Boisson was isolated, then progressively marginalized. Through this case study here undertaken, we can measure how the network made possible the promotion of a new elite of color during the Revolution, how these connections were established and perpetuated on both sides of the Atlantic, and then how the unraveling of this network led to social marginalization [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
